  • HCA President’s Report - Tamara Srader.

    • Thank you to all who attended the December gathering at the Huntington Community Center! A great time had by all! Tamara would like to schedule something in the spring. Perhaps something like the potlucks we used to have before the pandemic, or game nights. Between 6 and 7:30 (after the school kids are done, and before they close) the community center on Farrington Dr. is typically empty. Tamara posted on the FB page the name of the person who manages the community center. They are seeking people to use the space.

    • Richmond Highway is under construction and many houses towards Mt. Vernon are being demolished to make way for the new bus route. New restaurants and maybe a new grocery store is planned along RT 1.  Members discussed first floor retail, and the future development in the green space along Huntington Ave near the Parker Apartments, which is supposed to have retail on the first floor. The neighborhood was able to convince the developers to eliminate the idea of adding a new community center in that building.

    • Tamara announced that she and Leeann are moving to the Mt. Zephyr area (South of Huntington) soon, and therefore will eventually have to resign her position. She will still be in the Mt. Vernon district, and will stay in her role as President until the Spring, when they sell their house in Huntington.

  • HCA Member Time (if you would like to discuss a specific topic, please email Tamara Srader, HCA president prior to the meeting at president@huntingtononline.org)

    • Jamie invited neighbors to join pruning sessions in the Orchard at the top of Blaine in late January/early February. Please join to help if you can.

    • Mark reminded members that trash must be bagged. Fairfax County is getting strict and won’t pick it up trash that is loose. Also, recycling bins are being used as trash and the county will not pick it up.

    • Emmaly asked about the status of the houses at the corner of Biscayne and Huntington that are both for sale. They are zoned commercial, and listed together. Could they sell them and tear them down? When they were last sold, they were used as an Airbnb.

    • The group discussed several houses in the neighborhood for sale, and houses that are managed by management companies and/or investors.

    • Mark noted reporting a white vehicle with DC plates that has been parked at the end of Biscayne for quite some time.

The meeting was adjourned at 20:01.
