Treasurer’s Report (MR).
o HCA member dues are due in January. $12:00/year. https://www.huntingtononline.org/join-hca. Please consider supporting our small volunteer organization.
Committee and Other Reports
MVCCA (Mount Vernon Council of Citizens’ Associations, Inc.) If you are interested in volunteering, please go to the MVCCA website www.mvcca.org for more information. You can also contact Tamara, and she can connect people who would like to volunteer. Committees are always looking for volunteers!
o Environment and Recreation (E & R) - Alan Ruof. No update.
o Planning and Zoning (P & Z) - Ray Novitske. No update.
o Transportation Committee and Public Safety - Mark Rogers? Committees were combined as of April 2025. Mark, Jason, and Tamara all went to a VDOT townhall and all contributed to the conversation below.
VDOT express lanes update. Meeting was disappointing. Lots of people but VDOT tried to avoid questions. Had lots of maps and traffic studies to show that took up most of the time. VDOT is projecting out to 2050 to show what it would look like with and without the express lane expansion.
Onramps and offramps would be on the left/middle, so it would minimize overpasses.
There would be potential for extra lanes, like carpool lanes. Seems like VDOT has made the decision to use private toll lanes. Have eliminated consideration of public lanes.
Have not confirmed that MD will contribute.
Wilson bridge will be eligible to revert back in case Metro wants to reclaim it, but that is unlikely.
MD could have an impact on the decision
Still accepting public comment on the VDOT website. Through April 21, 2025. https://www.vdot.virginia.gov/projects/northern-virginia-district/i-495-southside-express-lanes-study/
A member asked if the subject of soundwalls in Old Town came up, and it did not.
o Education Committee - Mark Rogers. No update.
o Budget and Finance. No update.
o Stormwater - Committee talked about grants for homeowners who have flooding problems.
HCA President’s Report - Tamara Srader. This will likely be Tamara’s last meeting, as she sells her house in Huntington next month. Will still participant and is working on a transition document to transfer duties. She and LeeAnn are planning on hosting a party at the new house over the summer for everyone.
HCA Member Time (if you would like to discuss a specific topic, please email Tamara Srader, HCA president prior to the meeting at president@huntingtononline.org)
o Ryan De Marco got an email from Supervisor Storck’s office regarding the bike stations. They are approved and supposed to be installed this summer
o Art show at Huntington Community Center the first Saturday in May. Dorothy shared a flyer with local businesses and apartment complexes. Tamara added it to the newsletter she recently sent.
o The Mount Vernon district is very active in the community. It has 35 community associations, and Supervisor Storck shows up to every meeting. They are always looking for volunteers.
o Lisa asked about needing meeting space for her HOA, and asked how to reserve the Huntington Community Center. Tamara and Dorothy both suggested walking over and talking to the desk staff. The community center is underutilized and they would probably love to have some interest.
o Parking enforcement in the neighborhood is still underway.
o Neighbors were encouraged to submit a VDOT request to fix the pothole on Biscayne.
The meeting was adjourned at 20:59.
