  • HCA President’s Report - Tamara Srader.

  • Development in the area. The Aventon (at the top of Biscayne) is not open yet, but people are walking through the fencing and using the stairs. The Aventon is supposed to open in September, but we haven’t heard an official date yet.

  • November HCA Elections. Tamara announced that HCA elections are in November, and asked that people consider running for President, Vice President, or Secretary.

  • Parking Enforcement. Tamara has been in touch with the police about enforcing parking regulations. Parking on Glendale, and at the lower parts of Blaine and Biscayne is still a problem. She encouraged others to report parking violations.

  • October - Halloween community activity ideas. Several people expressed interest in organizing an event for Halloween. Kendall and Daren are interested in doing a BIG event. Emmaly and Mike suggested a friendly neighborhood competition - perhaps a community map so people know who is decorated and who is passing out candy. Members also suggested posting sandwich Boards in various locations directing people. Kendal will lead the Halloween event as the “ringleader”.

  • Reminder - please consider your dues – it’s $12.00/year and they can be paid via PayPal: https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=XHNAXDAUKFHJY.

  • HCA Member Time (if you would like to discuss a specific topic, please email Tamara Srader, HCA president prior to the meeting at president@huntingtononline.org)

    • Lisa K. noted wood fencing around a lot on Route 1, with lots of security cameras, and wondered what it was. Several people thought it was parking for a construction company.

    • Jamie mentioned that the fig trees in the Orchard (at the top of Blaine) are doing well, and if anyone picks any, just be careful about wasps and hornets.

    • Lisa K. noted that she got a postcard in the mail from VDOT regarding expansion of toll lanes on 495. Bert shared the link to VDOT: https://www.virginiadot.org/projects/northern-virginia/495southsideexpresslanes.asp. There are 3 public meetings, and she urged folks to participate and comment, because this will likely impact our area. See below for dates and times. Tamara will relay this information to Jason, as it might be something he has knowledge about as part of the Transportation Committee.

  • Tamara will ask about the Stormwater Committee at the next Mt. Vernon Council meeting. There is going to be grant money to address stormwater issues, but as Tamara understands it, HOA’s are going to try to get the funding. Tamara asked that people please report stormwater issues on the FF County website, so they are on the record when any future development is being considered.

  • Lisa K. mentioned a previous shooting on Huntington Ave and saw that there was a resolution, and perhaps a court date soon. She is seeking more information.

  • Laverle asked about trash along Huntington. Tamara reached out to Metro and Fairfax County, and both said the other was responsible.

  • Laverle also complimented the website upgrades and meeting minutes.

  • The meeting was adjourned at 17:59
