Welcome to the new Huntington Discussion Board. This board offers the same opportunities as the old board, but without the ads, and without Yahoo following and recording your web surfing or its advertisers sending spam. If you need to get to the old Yahoo Discussion Board, click Old Board.
Registration
Visitors can read the posts, but only registered users can post comments to the board. To become a registered user, hit the Register button at the top of the page. Send an email requesting registration to: webmaster@huntingtononline.org. We will send you approval to fill out the online registration form. Once completed, submit it and you will be registered. The FAQ page can answer some additional questions you may have.
Setup
The board has been pre-arranged into three categories, with each category containing forums. Users can add topics in the forums and post messages under the topics.
Categories > forums > topics > messages.
Use & Features
Use the discussion board to post topics, opinions, and announcements. Use common sense to decide when to post to the discussion board for everyone to read, or to use the email or personal message feature.
The email feature allows you to send a message to someone's email address. The board software sends the message to the recipient's email address without displaying the address to you. The recipient will see your email address when the email arrives.
The message feature allows you to send a personal message to someone's discussion board account. It is held in the recipient's discussion board inbox until the recipient logs on and reads it. Use this feature for example to keep your message private on a computer shared with someone. The message never downloads to your computer - it resides on your discussion board account which only you have access to. You can select an option to be notified by email when someone has sent a personal message to you. You can save or delete any personal messages sent to your discussion board inbox just as you can with your email program.
You can add a poll by filling in the poll form at the bottom of the screen when you fill out a post. Leave it blank for no polls. The board software allows users to vote in each poll only once. Also, voting is totally anonymous - even the administrators can't know who voted.
If you post a message to the board, you can elect to be notified when someone posts a response to a topic or a forum. Click "watch this topic." Or, click "watch this forum" if you want to be notified of any new posts in an entire forum.
Avatars (your personal picture graphic) can be selected from the assortment available. Go to your profile page and select one. If you have your own 80x80 image you want to use, send it to the webmaster to be added to the selections.
Rules
-Be courteous. You may not agree, but at least respect other people's opinions.
-We will not allow offensive language or abusive behavior.
-This is not a marketplace, so no advertising or sales pitches are permitted.
-Try not to engage in personal one to one communications, unless you believe it is beneficial for others to follow your discussion. Use personal emails instead.
Types of Posts
A sticky is an instruction or message from the board administrator or moderator that always stays at the top of the list of topics.
An announcement can be posted by registered users, and also stays at the top of the list of topics.
Once you post a message, you can go back and edit it. You cannot delete posts, but the administrators can if you ask them to. Administrators are Mack Rhoades and Ray Novitske. In addition, some forums may have their own moderators.
Happy surfing.
