Escape Without Force/ Burglary/ Arrest
3300 block of Burgundy Road
A woman called police on Tuesday, May 20 around 8:45 a.m., to report that a man allegedly broke into her neighborıs home in the 3300 block of Burgundy Road. Police arrived, heard the suspect inside and forced the door open. A police K9 was sent in to search for the suspect. Jose Rodriguez Sanchez, 33, was found hiding under a chair. He was arrested and taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center. An investigation concluded that Rodriguez Sanchez, of 15199 Valley Stream Drive in Woodbridge, is the same suspect who escaped from an officer earlier. At that time, he was being arrested on an outstanding warrant from another jurisdiction. He was charged with felony escape without force, burglary and petit larceny.

Armed Robbery/Malicious Wounding
6200 block of North Kings Highway
An employee of the Rite Aid Pharmacy at 6211 North Kings Highway was robbed on Monday, March 31 around 10 p.m. The victim, a 21-year-old Alexandria-area man, was outside the store when he was forced back inside by two men, one armed with a handgun. The suspects took his cell phone and demanded money. The victim relinquished an undisclosed amount of cash and was assaulted by both suspects who then fled with money and merchandise. The victim was transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital with non life-threatening injuries. Both suspects were described as black, about 25 years old. The first suspect was approximately 6 feet 3 inches tall and weighed about 180 pounds. He wore a gray hoodie, blue jeans, white shoes and a black, knit cap. The second suspect was approximately 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighed about 190 pounds. He wore a blue jacket, blue jeans and dark shoes. He had long, braided hair.

Robbery Arrest
5900 block of Monticello Road
Police arrested two men shortly after they robbed a 43-year-old Alexandria-area man last night. Police were called to the 5900 block of Monticello Road at 11:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 3, for a robbery. An investigation determined that the victim was walking along Monticello Road near Fort Drive when he was grabbed from behind by three males. The suspects assaulted the victim, took his backpack, then fled toward Fort Drive. Officers located the suspects in a vehicle nearby. James Downing, 22, of 3606 Kendall Place in the Alexandria area and Farhan Rafiq, 21, of 14415 Brandon Court in Woodbridge were each charged with one count of robbery. They were transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center. Police are still searching for the third suspect, a black male in his 20s. He is about 5 feet 7 inches tall and 150 pounds.

Robbery
2300 block of Huntington Avenue
An 18-year-old Alexandria-area man was robbed while walking in the 2300 block of Huntington Avenue on Wednesday, April 2. Around 11:30 p.m., he was approached from behind by three men who hit him on the head and knocked him down. They stole his backpack and fled the scene. There is no suspect information available and the victim sustained no injuries. The investigation is ongoing.

Malicious Wounding
5800 block of North Kings Highway
An adult man was assaulted by a 35-year-old Maryland man on Saturday, March 22. The men met at a bar and went to the victimıs home in the 5800 block of North Kings Highway around 4:30 a.m. to continue drinking. An argument started at some point and the men began fighting. The Maryland man struck the victim several times with a bottle. The victim was transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital with non life-threatening injuries to the head and chest. The suspect also received minor injuries during the struggle and was taken to Inova Mount Vernon Hospital. Charges are pending.

Armed Robbery
North Kings Highway/Jamaica Drive
A 29-year-old Alexandria-area man was the victim of an attempted armed robbery on Thursday, March 6. He was walking home from the Metro station around 12:15 a.m. and was approached by a man at North Kings Highway and Jamaica Drive. The man pulled out a gun and demanded money. The victim did not have any money and walked away. He was not injured. The suspect was described as Hispanic, in his 20s. He wore a black and white bandana over his face, a blue jacket and blue jeans. He was described as being about 5 feet 10 inches tall and 160 pounds.

Armed Robbery
5700 block of Fenwick Drive
On Wednesday, January 30 at about 6:30 a.m., a Huntington-area woman was robbed at gunpoint on her way to the Huntington Metro Station. The 49-year-old woman was walking along the 5700 block of Fenwick Drive when the man approached her. He produced a handgun, pointed it at her and demanded money. She complied. He instructed her to turn around and walk away. She did so and was not injured. The suspect was described as black, in his 20s. He was approximately 5 feet 7 inches tall and skinny. He was wearing a black, hooded sweat shirt pulled over his head.

Carjacking
Fairhaven Avenue/Monticello Road
An 18-year-old Alexandria-area woman was reportedly the victim of a carjacking on Saturday, January 5 in the Huntington area. She dropped a friend off just before 10 p.m. near Fairhaven Avenue and Monticello Road and waited for him to go inside. A man approached her car and knocked on the window. She rolled the window down halfway and he asked for a light for his cigarette. While she went for a lighter, the suspect pointed a gun at her, reached inside to open the door and ordered her out of the car. The victim exited and was not injured. The suspect drove away. Police found the Jeep Liberty a few streets away; no one was inside. The suspect was described as black, in his 20s. He was about 5 feet 7 inches tall, 220 pounds and had a goatee. He wore a black and red jacket with the hood up and a black hat underneath.

Homicide
2300 block of Fort Drive
Fairfax County Police are investigating a homicide that occurred in the 2300 block of Fort Drive in the Huntington area. Police were called to the home on Saturday, December 15 around 11:30 p.m. and located a man dead with apparent upper body trauma. The victim has been identified as 24-year-old Miguel Angel Herrera Maldonado, of 2321 Fort Drive in Alexandria. Autopsy results indicated that Herrera died as a result of stab wounds to his upper body. Fairfax County Police are asking the publicıs help in finding Jhonatan Montolla, 20, of 2321 Fort Drive. Montolla is wanted for the murder, which occurred during an altercation between the two roommates. Detectives would like to remind witnesses they can remain anonymous. Do not approach Montolla, call police immediately.

Assault
6200 block of North Kings Highway
An employee of the Advanced Auto Parts store at 6228 North Kings Highway was robbed and assaulted on Tuesday, November 13 shortly before 8 a.m. The victim, a 31-year-old man from Clinton, Maryland, was in the front office when the suspect entered the store, approached and struck him in the head with an unknown object. The suspect demanded money and the victim complied, handing over an undisclosed amount of cash. He was not seriously injured. The suspect initially fled on foot, then was seen getting into a dark-colored van. He was described as white, 40 to 50 years old, 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighing about 230 pounds. He was wearing a gray, hooded sweat shirt, green pants and white tennis shoes.

Robbery
5900 block of Richmond Highway
A 21-year-old man from Chicago, Illinois was robbed on Thursday evening. Around 9:50 p.m. on November 15 the man was in his hotel room at the Relax Inn, located at 5963 Richmond Highway. A woman and man with a gun entered the room through an open door. The suspects demanded the victimıs wallet and cellular telephone and the victim complied. The male suspect took other personal property from the room and fled. The victim was not injured. The male suspect was described as black, in his late 20s. He was about 6 feet tall and 200 pounds. He was wearing a black sweat shirt and black pants. The female suspect was described as black, in her late 20s. She was about 5 feet 5 inches tall and 140 pounds. She was wearing a black sweat shirt and black pants.

Assault on a Police Officer
Huntington Avenue/Mount Vernon Drive
On Friday, August 31 shortly before 9 p.m., a Fairfax County Police officer made a traffic stop in the area of Huntington Avenue and Mount Vernon Drive. The officer subsequently arrested the driver for DWI. While en route to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, the officer noticed that the arrestee seemed to be having trouble breathing. The officer stopped and immediately called for rescue. The arrestee was transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital. While at the admissions desk, he became combative and kicked an officer in the head. He was quickly subdued and the officer was not seriously injured. Upon release from the hospital, Beaufort B. Brown, 37, of 8616 Woodward Avenue in Alexandria, was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was charged with assault on a police officer, DWI, driving on revoked license-DWI related and refusal to submit to a breath test.

Attempted Robbery
2300 block of Huntington Avenue
On Friday, September 14 around 7 a.m., police responded to the 7-Eleven at 2305 Huntington Avenue for a report of an attempted robbery. A 27-year-old Maryland man was inside the store when a man asked for money. The victim refused three times and the suspect allegedly pulled out a knife; the victim did not comply. The suspect left with nothing and the victim was not injured. Police arrested Donnell Cook, 44, of 2710 East Side Drive of Alexandria. He was taken to the Mount Vernon District Station and charged with attempted robbery by threat or intimidation.

Armed Robbery
6200 block of North Kings Highway
The Blockbuster Video at 6220 North Kings Highway was robbed on Thursday, August 23 at about 1:30 p.m. A 19-year-old Alexandria-area female clerk was approached by a potential customer. The man appeared to be buying a video when he produced a handgun and demanded money from the register. The victim complied and the man left the store with an undisclosed amount of money. The victim was not injured. The suspect was described as a black man in his 20s. He was approximately 5 feet 9 inches tall and about 170 pounds. He was bald and wore a gray shirt, black pants and black hat. He carried a black backpack.

2300 block of Huntington Avenue
Two employees of the 7-Eleven at 2305 Huntington Avenue were assaulted and robbed on Tuesday, August 21 shortly before 3 a.m. Three suspects entered the store, one armed with a gun. They approached the two employees, assaulted them and demanded money. The victims complied and sustained non life-threatening injuries. The suspects fled with an undisclosed amount of cash. They were seen leaving the area in a silver, four door car. The suspects were all described as black, in their 20s. The suspect with the gun was approximately 6 feet tall and weighed about 180 pounds. He was wearing blue jeans and a hooded jacket. The second suspect was also approximately 6 feet tall and weighed about 180 pounds. He was wearing blue jeans and a white, hooded sweat shirt. The third suspect was approximately 5 feet 6 inches tall. He was wearing blue jeans and a white, hooded sweat shirt with a black stripe.

Possession with intent to distribute/stolen vehicle/ arrest
Richmond Highway/North Kings Highway
On Thursday, August 23 at 4:30 a.m., an officer stopped a stolen vehicle on Richmond Highway near North Kings Highway. The driver was arrested and taken to the Mount Vernon District Station where he was charged with possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute and grand larceny.

Possession of stolen property
2900 block of Farmington Drive
An officer on patrol found a man sleeping in Jefferson Manor Park at 2909 Farmington Drive on Monday, August 20 around 11 p.m. The man was arrested for trespassing on county property after dark. The officer found stolen property in the man's possession including a 9 mm pistol. Keaven Mitchell, 42, of no fixed address, was arrested and transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center. He was charged with trespassing, possession of a concealed weapon and three counts of possession of stolen property with the intent to sell.

Robbery / Arrest
2500 block of Huntington Avenue
A 32-year-old Alexandria-area man was assaulted by two men on Wednesday, August 15. He was parked at the Huntington Metro at 2501 Huntington Avenue. He drives a Fairfax County-owned commercial bus and was waiting in the staging area for his next run. Two men boarded the bus and made a verbal threat. One suspect allegedly poked the victim in the eye and the second began punching him several times. The second suspect also attempted to remove the victim's wallet but was unsuccessful. The victim was taken to Inova Mount Vernon Hospital for non life-threatening injuries. Police located a possible suspect nearby. Samuel Hart, III, 36, was arrested and taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center. Hart, of 8257 Richmond Highway #5, was charged with attempted robbery.

Stolen Vehicle Arrest
2500 block of Fairhaven Avenue
On Tuesday, July 10 around 10 p.m., an officer was following a stolen vehicle. The officer lost sight of the car and later found it parked on the side of the road in the 2500 block of Fairhaven Avenue. The driver ran from the car and entered a home. During the course of the investigation, a 17-year-old Alexandria-area girl was arrested and charged with obstruction of justice. She was released to her mother.

Fatal Crash Arrest
Telegraph Road/Huntington Avenue. Roy Irving Brooks, 86, of 5505 Seminary Road in Falls Church, turned himself in at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center on Thursday, May 24. He was charged with felony hit and run stemming from a fatal pedestrian crash on Telegraph Road near Huntington Avenue on April 21, 2007.

Armed Robbery
2400 block of Fairhaven Avenue
A 49-year-old man who frequents the area of the 7-Eleven at 2405 Fairhaven Avenue in the Alexandria-area of Fairfax County was robbed at gunpoint. This occurred on Tuesday, May 29 around 11 p.m. The victim was standing in front of the store when he was approached by two men, one armed with a handgun. The suspects took the victim's bag, containing personal items to include his prescription drugs. The suspects fled in a blue van. The victim was not injured. The suspects were described only as black men. The blue van was described as having a ladder rack.

Attempted Armed Robbery
5800 block of North Kings Highway
On Monday, May 28 around 9:15 p.m., three men attempted to rob a 49-year-old Alexandria-area man. The victim was waiting for a bus in the 5800 block of North Kings Highway. Three men approached him, one brandishing a handgun. The second suspect looked through the victim's wallet and then at his cell phone. The third suspect stood afar and watched. The first suspect verbally threatened the victim with the handgun and all suspects fled with nothing. The victim was not injured. The suspects were described as black. They all were between 24 and 27 years old, approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighed about 150 pounds. The first two suspects wore jeans and a black shirt. The third suspect wore a white shirt and a Doo-rag over his head. It is possible the suspects robbed another man immediately following this incident at the same location. That victim did not call police.

Malicious Wounding / Arrest
2200 block of Huntington Avenue
On Monday, May 28 at about 1:30 a.m., a group of men were fighting in front of a restaurant in the 2200 block of Huntington Avenue. Police arrived and found two of the men bleeding. Subsequent investigation revealed that all of the participants in the fight had been drinking. A verbal argument erupted into a physical altercation at which time one man allegedly brandished a hand gun. The two men initially found bleeding had been cut with an unknown sharp object. Both victims refused medical treatment. Jose M. Solas, 38, of no fixed address, was charged with malicious wounding. The investigation is ongoing.

Receiving Stolen Property/Possession of Drugs/Arrest
6000 block of Richmond Highway
Police arrested a 30-year-old man from Washington, D.C. for allegedly possessing stolen property and a quantity of narcotics. An alert officer discovered stolen license plates on a vehicle parked at the Virginia Lodge Motel, located at 6027 Richmond Highway, just after 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 26. While investigating the stolen tags, a man approached the vehicle. The officer learned that the vehicle belonged to the man, James Eugene Morgan. The investigation led to a room at the hotel where Morgan was staying. Inside, officers found narcotics. James Eugene Morgan of 252 Oakwood Street, S.E. in Washington, D.C., was charged with one felony count of receiving stolen property and possession with the intent to distribute marijuana. He was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.

Armed Robbery
6200 block of North Kings Highway
The 27-year-old suspect in an attempted armed robbery was shot by one of the intended robbery victims early Sunday morning. Around 2:30 a.m. on June 10, four employees of the AMF Bowling Alley, located at 6228 North Kings Highway in the Penn Daw area, were closing up the business. They exited and were locking the doors when they were approached by two masked men with guns. The suspects forced the victims back inside the closed business and announced the robbery. One of the victims, a 22-year-old Alexandria-area man, grabbed his own weapon and shot one of the suspects. The second suspect fired rounds at the victim as the victim ran outside. The injured suspect, Ronald Whaley, ran outside but was unable to flee due to his injuries. The second suspect fled in a black-colored sedan. The victim was not injured. Whaley was transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital and treated for his non life-threatening injuries. On Monday, June 11, detectives served warrants on Whaley at Inova Fairfax Hospital. Ronald Whaley, of 411 Lakeview Drive in Temple Hills, Maryland, was charged with attempted robbery, abduction, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and attempted aggravated malicious wounding. Detectives are still looking for the second suspect, described as black and driving a black-colored vehicle.

Armed Robbery
5900 block of Richmond Highway
Two men were robbed and forced into their bathroom at the Relax Inn in the 5900 block of Richmond Highway in the Huntington area. On Tuesday, June 12 around 2 a.m., two men entered the room and brandished handguns. The two victims, 20-year-old men, one from North Carolina, the other from South Carolina, were ordered into the bathroom. They were not injured. The suspects took several items from the room and fled. Both suspects were described as black, approximately 20 to 25 years old. One suspect was about 5 feet 9 inches tall and had dreadlocks. He was wearing a blue, hooded sweat shirt. The second suspect was approximately 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighed about 140 pounds. He had black hair and brown eyes. He was wearing a green sweat shirt and a black hat.

Burglary
6100 block of North Kings Highway
At approximately 2:30 a.m. on Friday, June 8, police went to investigate a burglary at Chin's Kitchen Carry-Out, located at 6136 North Kings Highway. The owner responded to an alarm at his business and saw a dark figure flee from the business. As a result of the investigation, detectives believe the suspect gained entry to the restaurant through a ventilation shaft on the roof. Nothing was taken and no one was injured. At some point this same night between Thursday, June 7 and Friday, June 8, a burglar broke into the Dollar Star Store, located at 6230 North Kings Highway. Initial investigation revealed the unknown suspect entered through a roof-top vent and exited through the front door. Several items were taken.

Robbery
2400 block of Fairhaven Avenue
On Sunday, June 17 just after midnight, a clerk at the 7-Eleven store at 2405 Fairhaven Avenue was robbed. The suspect entered the store and asked for two cartons of cigarettes. The 67-year-old Alexandria-area clerk retrieved the cartons and before she could put them down for sale, the suspect grabbed her, pulled her down against the counter and grabbed the cigarettes. A customer tried to grab the suspect, who was able to get into a car waiting in the parking lot. The customer, a 45-year-old man from Pennsylvania, ran after the suspect and grabbed the steering wheel. The driver of the car continued until the customer was no longer able to hold on. The customer received minor injuries and was transported to Inova Mount Vernon Hospital. The clerk was not injured. The suspect was described as white, between 28 and 30 years old. He was about 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighed about 160 pounds. He had blond hair and wore a white shirt and blue shorts.

On Tuesday, June 26 around 9:40 p.m., a 22-year-old Alexandria-area man was assaulted at the Virginia Lodge motel at 6027 Richmond Highway. The victim had no identification available and needed to rent a motel room. He approached two men near the motel who agreed to rent a room. Inside the room one of the men grabbed the victim and demanded money. The second suspect allegedly cut the victim with a knife. The victim escaped and called police. He was not seriously injured. Police arrived and found the suspects still inside the motel room. Duane Dillman, 26 of no fixed address, and James Ray, 23, of 6029 Rixey Drive in the Alexandria area were arrested. A concealed handgun was found in Ray's possession. Dillman was charged with attempted robbery, assault and possession of marijuana. Ray was charged with attempted robbery and possession of a concealed weapon. Both suspects were taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.

Stolen Vehicle Recovered
6000 block of Richmond Highway
On Monday, April 30 around 8:30 a.m., an officer was investigating a suspicious car in the 6000 block of Richmond Highway. The officer made contact with the driver and determined the vehicle to be stolen. During a consent search of the driverıs motel room, a substance believed to be marijuana was found. The driver, Al Thompson, 32, of 10905 Droden Drive, Beltsville, Maryland, was arrested and charged with possession of stolen property and possession of marijuana. He was taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.

Fatal Hit and Run Arrest
Telegraph Road/North Kings Highway
Pedro Rodriguez, 67, died on Saturday, May 12 as a result of the injuries sustained on April 21. Following an investigation, detectives identified the driver of the vehicle which struck Rodriguez. The driver, an 86-year-old Alexandria-area man, will be charged with felony hit and run.

Fatal Pedestrian Crash
Richmond Highway/Fairhaven Avenue
A 52-year-old man was struck by an SUV as he attempted to cross a street on Wednesday, April 11 around 10:30 p.m. The pedestrian was crossing the southbound lanes of Richmond Highway from west to east in the intersection with Fairhaven Avenue. He was not in the crosswalk. As one car approached the intersection on a green light in the right through lane, the driver stopped to allow the pedestrian to cross. As the pedestrian got to the center lane of the southbound traffic, the light cycled to yellow. An SUV in the center lane struck the pedestrian. The striking vehicle, an SUV or Jeep, slowed but then fled south on Richmond Highway. The pedestrian was medevaced to Inova Fairfax Hospital where he died. He has been identified as Wesley Edward Leonard of no fixed address. Police are asking for any information in locating the striking vehicle. It was described as an SUV or Jeep. The vehicle should have extensive front end damage and at least one missing headlight. Robbery
5800 bock of North Kings Highway
On Saturday, April 14 around 8 p.m., a man was standing behind the Huntington Post Office, at 5834 North Kings Highway, talking on his cellular telephone when he was hit from behind, causing him to drop his telephone. He was not injured. The victim saw two men running away. One of the suspects picked up the victimıs phone as he ran away. An investigation led police to a home in the 2400 block of Fairhaven Avenue. During the investigation, the suspects were identified as two 16-year-old boys from the Alexandria area. They were both released to their parents. Charges are pending

Pedestrian Crash
Telegraph Road/Huntington Avenue
On Saturday, April 21 at approximately 9:45 p.m., a pedestrian was crossing Telegraph Road near Huntington Avenue when he was struck by a vehicle which fled. The victim, a 67-year-old Alexandria-area man was transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital in critical condition. The striking vehicle was described as a light blue sedan with dark windows and custom wheels. Police are attempting to locate this vehicle which should have damage to the hood and possibly the windshield.

Armed Robbery Arrest
Police have arrested a man believed to be responsible for five armed robberies in Fairfax County since January. James Rose, of 3415 5th Street in SE Washington DC, was arrested on Saturday, February 24 at 7753 Donnybrook #2 in Annandale. James has been charged with robbery, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a sawed off shotgun and use of a firearm during the commission of a felony in connection with the January 31 robbery. The 7-Eleven, located at 2998 Arlington Drive. James was also served with two warrants for malicious wounding and assault. He was then transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center. Additional charges are pending. The suspect is also believed to be connected to the following four robberies:

  • January 14 / Sunoco Gas Station / 7302 Richmond Highway
  • January 18 / Chin's Kitchen / 6136 North Kings Highway
  • January 18 / Huntington Market / 5834 North Kings Highway
  • February 22 / 7-Eleven / 3100 Lockheed Boulevard
In each robbery, the suspect would enter the business and display a firearm to employees. On two occasions the firearm was fired during the crime. The man fled with money each time and did not injure any victims.
